How much does it cost to attend STARBASE? It’s free, nada, nothing. We do not charge for your class to attend STARBASE, however, you may have some costs associated with getting your students here (transportation), and students bring their own drinks and lunches.
Who is the STARBASE program designed for? The STARBASE Alaska curriculum is appropriate for students in 4th thru 8th grades. The program has been tailored to fit in with the Anchorage School District’s 6th-grade curriculum.
I’m a teacher with an Anchorage School District (ASD) school; how can I schedule my class to attend STARBASE? All ASD school classes should schedule their visits directly with STARBASE. Once class dates are scheduled, schools will need to coordinate transportation either with parent drivers or the ASD Transportation Department. If parent drivers are used, close coordination with STARBASE Alaska is required to ensure the parents have access to our facility.
I home-school my children, can I bring them to STARBASE? We will gladly arrange a class for home-school students, however, we require a minimum number of 15 students, and we have a maximum capacity of 30 students. We accept applications from any school in Alaska. Please contact us directly.
I teach at a non-ASD school. Can I bring my students? We accept applications from any school in Alaska. Please contact us directly for further information.
Where are you located? Our mailing address is: STARBASE - Alaska P.O. Box 5800 JBER AK 99505
We are physically located in Buildings 60740 and 60724 at Camp Carroll on the Fort Richardson part of JBER.
My child just brought home all these consent forms for me to sign. Why do you need so much information? STARBASE is a program of the National Guard Bureau, Office of Athletics and Youth Development. We are required to provide statistical data to show our services are reaching the targeted population of at-risk youth. We require the contact and medical information to ensure your child can receive medical treatment in case of an emergency and so we can contact you immediately if your child needs you. Photo permissions are required to allow us to use your child’s image on our website or in our publications; the last names of students are never used.
What do we need to bring with us when we come to STARBASE? We will provide all the supplies and equipment needed for your class, however, each student must bring a lunch and drink. Water bottles are encouraged since we do not have a water fountain available. Please do not permit your students to bring any of the following: glass bottles, gum, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, etc.), candy, or caffeinated/carbonated beverages.
How can I get other questions answered? We can be reached at starbase.programdirector(at)alaska.gov or at (907) 384-6085.
